Hip & Knee
The hip and knee are two large joints that are required to support our body weight during walking and running. Dysfunction most commonly occurs when there is altered alignment in our feet, knees, and hips. This occurs due to weakness and/or tightness of the surrounding muscles. Body awareness is a big factor in if we are able to maintain alignment, stability, and coordination with our movements. What often happens as you adjust your movement patterns is the pain will move into another joint in the legs as you search for alignment in all the joints of the legs. Weakness in the glute muscles is the most common contributing factor for mal-alignment and subsequent joint pain. In order to maintain healthy and mobile lower extremities the function of the ankle, knee, and hip joints should be treated as a chain of movement.
